 Three times per year
To monitor students’ overall reading growth; to identify students who may need further assessment
 One-on-one assessment. Student reads 3 grade level passages for one minute each. The teacher records the median (middle) number of words / letters / sounds read correctly. AIMSWeb results are sent home with report cards.

Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI)

 Three times per year
To check inferential comprehension and monitor student reading growth.
 Computer-adaptive test. Students read short passages and answer questions that require inferences about the text. Based on student answers, the test “adapts” until it finds the right level for the student. Results shared on request

Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE)

 Once per year (fall) To determine the adequate yearly progress of students at the school, district and state levels. Students read passages and answer a variety of vocabulary and comprehension multiple choice and extended response questions Individual Student Reports shared in late Winter

The numbers above show the grade level targets for words read correctly in one minute on grade level passages. Generally speaking, students reading at or above these fluency targets are proficient readers.These targets are based on recommendations from the University of Oregon DIBELS research.
